What to look for in an e-bike/trike?
We are constantly asked by customers, which is the best e-bike or trike for them. We are all different sizes and have different reasons for purchasing an e-bike. Some are for exercise, some are for transport or carrying cargo and some are simply because of mobility issues.
Whatever the choice, e-bikers offer a healthy and cheaper alternative to using the daily car.
Key things to consider when finding the right option for you:
What style bike?
Bikes come in a variety of styles such as city/commuter, cargo , mountain (MTB), folding, fat wheeled/cruiser styles and of course tricycles. There are even modified recumbent bikes to suit many disabilities. Basically there’s a style for everyone.
Which motor should I get?
The motor can be in the wheel (hub drive), front or rear, or in the middle of the
frame (mid drive).
Both have their
advantages and drawbacks. Take a test ride
to find out which works best for you. A mid-drive will often offer more torque, but be a bit heavier.
How far will one battery charge get me?
This will always depend on a number of factors including the size of the battery, the weight of the rider, the topography (ie flat or hilly) and other factors such as headwinds/tailwinds and even how hot and cold it is. Generally a battery will take you anywhere between 40 and 120 km/h plus of fun and exciting riding!
How long does it take to charge the battery?
Most batteries will take 3 to 5 hours to fully
charge depending on size.
How much to spend on your bike?
The average entry level e-bike will cost
between $1500 to $3000. Specialised or
technically sophisticated trikes can cost more. Generally anything below $1500 will be made out of very low quality components and be unserviceable should something go wrong. We only specialise in quality offerings that are tried and tested and come with warranties. As an example our PfauTec range of German built trikes has a 2 year warranty and our Ryder bikes have an industry leading 3 year warranty for absolute peace of mind.
Another bike may “look” the same but we assure you “Not all bikes are created equal”.
