What is a mid-drive motor? 

A mid-drive electric bike features a motor situated centrally in its drivetrain, specifically between the pedals. This motor is powered by a battery located in the same area.

Connected to the crank, the mid-drive motor utilises the bike’s gears to enhance power and torque, offering greater control and efficiency. It is generally recognized as being more powerful and efficient than a hub motor, with quicker responsiveness.

Mid-drive motors are especially favoured for their superior performance on hills and challenging terrain.

Unlike hub motors that drive the wheel directly, mid-drive motors deliver power through the bike’s drivetrain. The motor connects to the cranks and chainring, transmitting power to the rear wheel via the chain.
